BEING BLACK IN CANADA

Presented by

Part of the Fabienne Colas Foundation’s Youth and Diversity Program and supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, this program offered professional mentorship to 15 emerging black filmmakers, 18 to 30 years old, in the production of a short documentary.

They addressed the issue of social integration of people from black communities in their cities across the country. These promising filmmakers were professionally guided through the many steps in audiovisual production from screenwriting, directing and editing, to post-production and more, with the end goal having been they created their first documentary short.

The Being Black in Halifax participants had a special preview #HBFF19, and then joined participants from the National Initiative ‘Being Black in Canada’ for the World Premiere of the screening of their films at the Montreal International Black Film Festival and the Toronto Black Film Festival. We welcome filmmakers from Toronto and Montreal to the Halifax Black Film Festival!
