In the fall of 1994, South Africa’s African National Congress came to power. Many believed this victory would signify an end to racism and oppression, allowing peoples to prosper. But inequality and economic disempowerment are still rife today. Corruption and power grab at all societal levels. The massacre of 34 striking mine workers at Marikana brought these issues into sharp focus. This film explores how the mineral wealth, rightfully belonging to the people of South Africa, has been sold to capitalist interests for the enrichment of a small elite at the country’s expense - and how traditional communities have been divided in this process.
