SPEAKERS Laura Mackenzie - Executive Director of Screen Nova ScotiaLaura is a proud Nova Scotian and the Executive Director of Screen Nova Scotia, bringing more than two decades of experience across production, national and international market intelligence, and public policy leadership. Laura holds a Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management from Mount Saint Vincent University and a two-year Hotel General Management credential. Following in industry introduction as a production assistant and working her way up to producing, she went on to hold senior roles with AIFF's Strategic Partners, International co-production and co-financing market and with the CMPA’s Prime Time Conference programming team, gaining valuable insight into the intersection of creative talent, financing, infrastructure, and public policy.
She previously served as Chair of the Creative Nova Scotia Leadership Council, advising the Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage on cultural and creative-economy policy. Appointed Executive Director in 2018 during a period of industry disruption, Laura led the repositioning of Nova Scotia’s screen sector through renewed advocacy, strategic messaging, and strengthened partnerships. Under her leadership, Screen Nova Scotia secured more than $23 million in public investment to establish the province’s first industry-owned soundstage and the Content Creator Fund, helping expand production capacity, workforce development, and triple annual production volume. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time on Nova Scotia’s lakes with her two Golden Retrievers, Sadie and Eddie. Danya Knowles - Industry Services and Workforce Development Officer at Screen Nova ScotiaDanya is the Industry Services and Workforce Development Officer at Screen Nova Scotia, where she supports the planning and execution of their professional development programs designed to help members of the local screen industry enhance their skills for career advancement. She’s passionate about strengthening creative communities and supporting meaningful industry growth.
