Educator, Conscious Lee will focus on how Black artists, creating their art and narratives, assert their agency and autonomy over their own lives and futures rather than being defined or limited by external forces such as racism, poverty, or marginalization.
This film emphasizes imagining and creating alternative futures and realities centered on Black people and their experiences. Afrofuturism is a cultural and artistic movement combining science fiction, fantasy, history, and Black culture to explore identity, agency, liberation, and empowerment themes. By invoking Afrofuturism, the film demonstrates that Black artists are responding to the present realities of oppression and struggle and actively shaping and envisioning a better future for ourselves and our communities.
