With the recent growing interest in Nella Larsen, we are proud to re-release our groundbreaking experimental short film on one of the least known figures of the Harlem Renaissance — a writer who gave us new ways of considering race during a brilliant, but tragically brief, career. Passing was created in 2004 when there existed a frustrating lack of visual documentation on her life. This experimental short is an attempt to introduce her to new audiences while reimagining the life of a mysterious woman whose life mirrored her art in its liminality.
