The Assistant follows two female film executives who, frustrated by constant rejection, create a male persona named \"Gregoire\" using AI and use his name in their emails. To their surprise, Gregoire’s presence gains instant respect, and their pitches are finally taken seriously. However, Avery begins seeking Gregoire’s validation, forcing Selma to remind her that Gregoire is their creation. This sparks a reckoning with Avery’s internalized misogyny. When Selma dismisses a woman’s pitch in favor of another white French man’s request, the duo’s success becomes tangled in their complicity with the very system they set out to expose.
